As a Minnesota-based certified wedding planner, I am always eager to explore new themes and ideas that cater to various budgets and styles. Today, I'm excited to take you on a journey through a celestial-themed styled shoot I conducted this past April at the Neu Neu in Minneapolis.
The Inspiration Behind the Celestial Theme
My primary inspiration for this theme comes from the enchanting City of Starlight, Velaris, featured in the series “A Court of Thorns and Roses.” The night sky has long captivated my imagination and is a beautiful metaphor for love. Just as the stars have guided lovers throughout history, they will continue to assist future couples in navigating their shared journey. Each sparkling star above symbolizes the couple's aspirations and dreams, lighting the way forward with promises of adventure and enduring love. The vastness and enigmatic nature of the night sky evoke a sense of romance and magic, making it the perfect theme for couples who wish to infuse an ethereal essence into their wedding day.
Decor and Ambiance: Bringing Our Theme to Life
Creating a celestial-themed wedding doesn't have to break the bank. We focused on key elements
that evoked the night sky's enchanting feel:
Color Palette: Deep blues, cosmic purples, and shimmering gold set the tone. These colors were interwoven through the table settings, floral arrangements by Callalily Florals, and even the signature drinks. Haven and Gather had all the fun linens in the color palette.
Lighting: Candles and lanterns mimicked stars, while candlelit centerpieces added a warm glow. These affordable options enhanced the venue's natural beauty and created a magical ambiance. Kristin with Petite Fete Event Decor Rental supplied all the tabletop decorations along with the art deco lanterns.
Celestial Accents: We subtly incorporated star and moon motifs throughout the decor, from the wedding cake adorned with edible gold stars to custom invitations featuring constellations created by Epitome Papers.
Fashion: Stellar Style for the Couple
To capture the celestial theme, our bride wore a flowing gown with delicate beading reminiscent of stardust from the Ivory Bridal Co. The groom complemented her perfectly in a midnight blue suit from The Suit Shop. For accessories, we chose pieces that sparkled in the light, adding a touch of starlit elegance. These included an art deco star crown and the engagement ring with wedding bands reminiscent of a starburst from R.F. Moeller Jeweler. Lucy from Glossed and Glammed did the hair and makeup of our beautiful model.
Unique Vendors That Made the Celestial Magic Happen
I love building these styled shoots. Along with allowing me to think of a theme, I work with some fantastic vendors who love the theme and want to be involved. Equal Parts Cocktail Company brought their trailer and mobile bar and created unique celestial cocktails for the shoot. Rheo with The Beats Boutique set the mood with his music and lights and we set up a guest experience with tarot card readings by Cristina with Be Free Be Yourself.
Photography and Videography: Capturing the Magic
The key to a successful celestial-themed wedding is in the details. Our photographer and videographer husband and wife duo, Megan and Alec of Beyond the Pines Photo and Video, captured the essence of the night sky through stunning visuals that highlighted the thematic elements. From the glowing lanterns to the intricate details of the bride’s gown, each photo told a story of romance and wonder.
